The Sea Santa
I’ve always wanted to be a hero. Since I was little, I’ve been looking up to Wonder Woman. She saved the world with her raw strength. Her Lasso of Truth can solve any problem she could have. But as I grew older, Batman seemed to be the closest hero I could possibly be. But then I realized immediately, even to be a Batman, I needed to have a lot of money. I also needed to take a different set of martial arts lesson to be skilled in many of them. With my current job and frail body, even becoming Batman is too far from possible. I still want to be a hero though, so I spared my time to read and research on what could I possibly do to be one.
One day, I stumbled upon a text that said if you write down your wish on a piece of paper, put it in a glass bottle, and give it to the sea. Your wish might come true. Off course the first thing that came to my mind wasn’t “Oh, I need to write my wish to be a Wonder Woman in a glass bottle” since I know that’s no more than a child’s dream. What I thought of immediately was “I can be their Santa!”.
The next day, I packed my bag. After pulling all my cash from the bank, and cash in all the gold that I had saved for years, I stopped a taxi and asked the driver to take me to the harbour. I took us 15 minutes until we arrived. I noticed a big boat rent banner from afar and went there immediately. There was a big buffy guy standing behind the desk which I assumed to be the guy in charge.
“One ship for today, please?”
He handed out a flyer that showed different type of boats.
“Which type, ma’am?”
It took me awhile to look, but since I was planning to be on the sea for a week, I decided to take the houseboat.
“A small houseboat would be nice. I plan to rent it for a week”
“Our rental rate for a houseboat is $500 a day, so a week would be $3500”
“Thank you.”
My boat was ready, packed with foods, drinks, and all other necessities. I pulled up the anchor and set the boat auto-pilot to the east, the area in which the radar showed to have a lot of dots, indicating that area was full of junk, and possibly a lot of wish-in-a-jar.
I arrived on the spot. It was indeed full of garbage. It had a peculiar stink too. But my eyes suddenly turned bright when I spotted the first glass bottle. I picked it up and took out the letter from it.
“Hello, the mighty sea. Today I passed the test to enter a university. No family to celebrate, but I’ve been with loneliness since high school, and I’m used to be and being alone. I hope the world will get better, and I wish that you are happier than me. 20/02/2020, with love, Jaden”
For the first time, I was so happy with a big decision that I’ve taken in my life. Jaden’s letter made me realize that everybody needs someone to talk to. Letter is a powerful medium for someone to fully expresses themselves. Sometimes, you can be more open with a piece of paper than with even your best friend or close member of your family.
Today, I had completed answering 20 wishes. I could not wait to answer more.
